Mary Fleig

Camp F.L.E.I.G. was developed by Millersville University’s Head Women’s Basketball Coach Mary Fleig. Coach Fleig has been Millersville’s Head Coach for 22 years and her success includes over 500 career wins and a .668 winning percentage. As a leader in the coaching ranks, Coach Fleig has impacted thousands of kids and young adults through summer camps.

For years, Coach Fleig has been running summer camps for kids. She developed Camp F.L.E.I.G. to focus on several core values to help children develop the skills to be strong, fit, self-confident leaders. The core values are: Fitness, Leadership, Eating Healthy, Integrity, and Great Times. Developing these core values early helps ensure a child’s ability to make decisions for him or her self, to be able to stand up to peer pressure, and to set a personal standard of behavior. Through the use of positive role models like the camp director, counselors, and other camp personnel, Camp F.L.E.I.G. offers kids a fun and safe environment to learn, to grow, and to be productive, creative, and happy.

Camp Fleig provides a fun, entertaining, and educational experience. We know kids learn best when they are involved in activities they enjoy. Every day is different, filled with new and exciting adventures. Within these activities, we are teaching the Camp Fleig values and helping our campers develop a new perspective of wellness and leadership. Our days include fun exercise programs (Zumba, Dance, Martial Arts, Spin, yoga, pilates, weight lifting, obstacle courses, hiking, core strength, track and field, swimming), sports programs (basketball, kickball, ultimate frisbee, olympic games, ping pong, soccer, ropes course, golf, floor hockey, racquetball, volleyball) and other activities (theater, acting, team challenges, guest speakers, arts and crafts, tech projects, group games, photography, nutrition games). If a camper does not like a particular activity, no problem, we offer multiple choices for each activity period. In addition to our on campus activities, once a week we head out for a special day. A special day might include a trip to an amusement park, a safari adventure, a sporting event, camping, water activities, etc.  See an example of our Typical Schedule here.

Now more than ever kids need guidance in wellness and leadership. Kids are a product of the changing environment.  Some of the trends we are seeing are:

AboutUs

  • Increase in Childhood Obesity
  • Decreases in Health and Physical Education Programs
  • Increase in Emotional and Behavior Issues

Throughout a camper’s experience, we will also make sure he/she is eating properly and is educated on the importance of proper nutrition.  Each day consists of a healthy breakfast, lunch, dinner, and two snacks.  Here you can see Typical Meals and Snacks.

Camp F.L.E.I.G. was created to reverse these trends and instill wellness and leadership skills in our campers. These skills will last a lifetime and will lay a foundation to build more success and happiness.
