Mary Fleig
Current owner of the 10th most wins amongst active Women’s Basketball coaches in all of the NCAA Division II, Millersville University Marauders head coach Mary Fleig became just the 15th coach in division history to reach the 500 victory milestone. Entering her 22nd year at the helm of the Marauder bench, Fleig has compiled a 393-195 (.668) record.
Under Fleig’s watch the Marauders have earned NCAA Division II Tournament berths in each of the last four seasons and in nine of the last 14. The longest-tenured coach in program history, Fleig registered her 14th career 20-win season in 2010-11 and led her club to a conference record 15th-straight trip to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference tournament.

Fleig has not only fostered a program that wins during her time on the Millersville sideline, she has instilled discipline with a keen emphasis on fundamentals and strong defense. Both on and off the court, Fleig cultivates leadership, team building, and the importance of a healthy lifestyle in her student athletes. As a mentor, many of her former players have moved on from their time at Millersville to become teachers or coaches in their local communities, coach at the intercollegiate NCAA Division I level, serve the country in the armed forces, or enter the medical field to develop ground breaking research to find cures for diseases that afflict millions of people.
In 1991, Fleig started her first off-season camp program for local student athletes grades 2 -12 and for the last eight years she has coordinated the Nike® Basketball camp. Every year, Fleig runs both individual and team-oriented camps. Her camps are structured around building team work, discipline, leadership, communication, and most important…HAVING FUN! Her main goal for any student athlete is to emphasize the importance of team work and making healthy and smart choices. These two components are vital to the growth and maturity of students under her leadership so they can become productive members on their teams, in their schools, and around their communities.

Burcin was a starting guard for the Lady Marauders under Head Coach Mary Fleig from 1997 – 2001.
Sara credits Coach Fleig with teaching her to set high standards and reach those goals as a student athlete. Today, Burcin still lives by that code of conduct. David Wells
David Wells joined the Millersville University women’s basketball program as an Assistant Coach under Head Coach Mary Fleig in October 2011. A native of Colorado, Wells arrived in Millersville off a 2010-11 season NCAA Division II Elite Eight appearance with the Metropolitan State College of Denver and a 30-3 record. Wells has previously coached teams or one-on-one with student athletes in various sports: basketball, track and field, football, and soccer. His time coaching is spent targeting areas of importance and developing successful athletes, both on and off the field. He works to build leadership, discipline, focus, and a drive to succeed.
Wells believes what you do off the field will translate to what you do on the field and helps his athletes and teams to understand the importance of consistency. Off the field, Wells has worked as an academic tutor through AVID, (web link: http://www.avid.org/) mentoring kids grades 6 – 12 and helping them to reach college. He has also worked with high school kids through various satellite camp programs on more focused coaching and team oriented values. In his first season coaching at MU, he admires how Coach Fleig works with her student athletes to give them opportunities to succeed on and off the court; opportunities they may not have received under a different coaching philosophy.
Wells has a Bachelor of Science in exercise science from the Metropolitan State College of Denver. He is certified with the American Red Cross in CPR, First Aid, and AED First Responder and is currently working towards a Certification in Strength Conditioning Specialist (CSCS).
